I joined a gym and have already been there twice!
If you don't really like gyms because of the smelly-ness or grossness i recommend trying a Planet Fitness if you have one near you.
they have an awesome feature to the gym that has someone there during the day to coach you on using the equipment or help you figure out what to do for what you want to accomplish. They also have a 30 minute workout station.
I really like it but my fiance does not because they discourage heavy weight lifting and that is what he wants to work on.
Obviously there is no real immediate results since I have only gone twice, but I do feel more motivated to do things after I go to the gym.
With everything that I have been doing (moving helped) and trying to eat better I lost around 5 pounds. Yay! now all I have to do is continue this trend.
